The Great Experiment: August Winner

And the winner is...Crummy Mummy. Congratulations! I'll be emailing you for your information so I can send you a check.  I guess I could wire it but I think receiving a $180 check in the mail for your writing will be fun!  I suppose converting the dollar to the pound won't be though. In the end it was a pretty close race.  I don't count "split" votes or anything like that.  So keep in mind, if you do that, it's a wasted vote.

Notes for September: Am going to bump the entry fee up to $5.  Here is why;  one person, who didn't even enter the contest, contributed $100.  So the pot would've been a lot smaller.  Also, once PayPal takes its fee your $2 entry fee is more like $1.60.  So I'll bump it up to $5 and see what happens. Does that seem like too much? I just want to make sure the pot is big enough that there's some good motivation to enter but I don't want the entry fee to be so high nobody enters, ya dig? Also, if you don't enter you can still donate but it doesn't have to be $5.

If you enter make sure you make it easy for people to comment on your blog.  I wanted to comment on a few but some of y'all have your blogs set so that we basically need to sign a promissory note to leave a comment.

Also, maybe at the bottom of your entry post explain that it's for THE GREAT EXPERIMENT and invite your readers over to come vote for you. On some of your blogs, that seemed like a missed opportunity to get votes from your own readers who already think you're a great writer.

All in all I'd say it was pretty successful and gave everyone a chance to get to know a few more folks.  I'll announce September's topic on the first.

Hurrah! Thanks to all of those who voted for me. I did encourage my work colleagues to vote - so my first purchase will be to buy them some chocs by way of thank you, and also because they are, well, demanding them.

I'm just about to have a family vacation for the first time in 2 years - so the rest of the pot will go towards my holiday fund which is currently lower than Captain Nemo. Loved the idea and the taking part - congrats to Monica. Also I'm now hooked on several blogs I had never previously heard of.....

Great job Crummy Mummy! Well deserved. I loved participating in this, it was so much fun! Just to see that some people voted for me was a boost to the self-esteem! Monica, what an AWESOME idea! I still think you should get something out of doing all of this and all the work you put in. I think next month you should take a percentage!! Anyone else agree? Also, I can't, for the life of me, find your email address. When I click on the "email me" link, the outlook pulls up, but mine does not work. I wanted to figure out payment, so I can pay for September too! Let me know when you get a minute how I can email you.;)
Again, great job everyone! I hope you all had as much fun as I did with the contest!

PS 'A mysterious gentleman from London....' Monica - I'm most impressed you found a single gentleman in my neck of the woods... Where was he when I was single and dating every wrong man available in the big smoke?? What a donation! And.. O agree with Kylie - you gotta take a cut - from running the whole shebang.

Yep I agree, it was fun. Just knowing all those people read what I wrote. yes yes, not a single vote, but it was fun nonetheless!
I guess my problem is that I don't really want the people in my immediate circle to read my blog, I can write about ANYTHING that way! :)

Nah. No percentage. I want the pot to be as big as possible to help the winner out. Just keep playing everyone and tell your friends! It was fun. Jen, you got a couple votes, I remember counting them. Or was that the alcohol talking?

Don't be shy, people! We're all the same here. That's why I started THE GREAT EXPERIMENT. Want everyone with blogs to hang out and not feel intimidated. However, if lurking's your thing, that's cool too. Just want those of us with blogs to link up and get to know each other.

Karen, so glad you started a blog and played with us! Your blog was one I tried to comment on and gave up. Is there another setting you can pick to allow anonymous commenters or a name/url comment?

Look, I know you didnt' want us to comment on your Weaning post, but I just wanted to say that you look really beautiful. And I'm not just saying that. I think your bod' is rockin - especially when you consider the fact that you have a new baby. My wish for you is that you can stop the obsessive thinking and accept yourself the way you are today. Because the way you look today is great!
