This post is sponsored by Dashing Bee! But listen! I know sponsored posts can sometimes be a drag so for each sponsored post I'm going to start asking the company to do a giveaway for you guys. That way I get rewarded for writing and you get rewarded for reading. A win-win, yes?

If there's one thing you can waste a bunch of money on it's trashy celeb magazines clothes for your kids. They grow out of stuff so fast it's absolutely ridiculous to splash out for the really expensive stuff. Unfortunately, the really expensive stuff is also the really cute stuff.

What is it about dressing little kids like tiny adults that is so appealing? I dunno. I mean, there is a whole segment of the population who forces their animals into clothing as well. And hey! I'm not judging. Ever since living in New York City where squirrels regularly hang out with humans I have fought an odd compulsion to catch one and dress it in tiny people clothes and take it for walks on a leash. Or maybe I would teach it to perch on my shoulder and we would ride on the subway together and I would buy it nuts from the grocery store and we would be fast friends. It could be done! Hell, if a squirrel can water ski it can most certainly pull off a little perching on a shoulder. Shoulder-perching is peanuts next to water skiing.

Where was I? Oh, right. We enjoy dressing little critters up like adults. Tis' true. The one time I put a suit on Henry I carried him all around the house posing him in various positions because OH MY GOD, baby in a tie, people, BABY IN A TIE!

Are you seeing the tie? On the baby? A tie! On a baby! Wait. Hold on! More tiny baby dressed as an adult coming up!

Do you see the tiny baby in a three-piece suit?! A three-piece suit! Well, sans pants, but still! And! A pocket square?! For the love of... I can't decide what I like more. The tiny baby that looks like Tony Soprano or the water skiing squirrel! Don't make me choose. All I know is if I had access to a tiny desk and a tiny phone I would've staged an entire office scene wherein Henry yells into the phone to sell the stock now, dammit, sell the stock now!

I'm serious. Sell the #@$*ing stock now. Do I look like I'm kidding?

See! Hilarious every time!

But alas, new suits for babies are expensive. All nice clothes for kids are expensive, especially considering the fact they'll outgrow the stuff quicker then you can get the tags off and the clothes wrestled on to the kid. So, most of the time I end up going to Walmart and buying that cheap, generic crap that five other girls in Violet's little pre-school are wearing. There's Alexis in her Walmart striped ladybug pants and then Janey rolls up in her ladybug pants and then Violet gets to class and, like, OMG how embarrassing is that? It's especially shameful when Alexis is potty-trained and Janey is still in pull-ups which cause her ladybug pants to bunch up all wonky-like and it's just so obvious that Alexis is wearing her pants better in a Star Magazine Who Wore It Better kind-of-way.

In Utah we lived right next to a second-hand kid clothing store where we often made all sorts of cool finds but here in Pennsylvania the nearest one is like, an hour away. The Old Navy - which has pretty good stuff - is even farther. So I can either pay $105 for a pair of itty-bitty GAP jeans or I can pay $5.99 for a pair of generic Walmart duds.

Until now. I have recently discovered Dashing Bee. It's an online consignment shop for kids clothes, baby gear, the whole shebang. Girls clothes, boys clothes, toys, books, nursery decorations. For like, a quarter of the original cost. Very soon they will offer a maternity clothing section, which, everyone knows maternity clothes are ridiculously expensive and you outgrow that stuff faster than your kids outgrow their clothing. So, yes. I dig this site. You can buy stuff or you can sell your own stuff on the site and earn money to buy even more stuff. Basically, if you're smart, you can sell your stuff, earn money to buy your kids new stuff, then sell that stuff and buy new stuff and outfit your kids for next to nothing. As you can see, there is a lot of stuff going on over there.

Here's the deal: Alison and Tracee, the adorable gals who started Dashing Bee, want to give you free stuff. Yup. Four commenters will each get $25 worth of credit to purchase whatever you want on the Dashing Bee site. And they have tons of stuff, you guys. You can shop by brand (GAP, Ralph Lauren etc..) by size or by gender... Whatever! To enter to win $25 of credit just like Dashing Bee on Facebook and leave a comment here (include your email address so I can notify you if you win!) about what item on the site you have your eye on. And guess what? Just like that it could be yours. If you don't have kids, get something for your sister or best friend or whatever. You'll be, like, the coolest aunt ever and all you did was push a couple buttons on your keyboard.

I'll leave comments open for a couple days and then pick four winners. And listen! If you see a really nice suit in size 18 months you'll let Henry and I know if you know what's good for ya.

I really think the bathing suits are adorable and we could definitely use a cute one with summer coming :)

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterKristin

I'd load up on books (especially all those Elmo ones -- my daughter loves Sesame Street!), and maybe top it off with some summer dresses for her, if there is anything left after I demolish the book pile. ;)

Must have pink denim Baby Gap jacket for my two year old!

I love the LA Made Vest in gray (size 3T). I also die! for the Crew Cuts jeggings with zippers at the ankles! Love! I can't believe I never knew of this site until today.

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterMeghann

I have my eye on some 3T jeans for my little man as well as some dress pants. I recently scored a dress shirt, vest and tie from my local thrift store, so I need to complete the outfit!

I would really really really like the Fleurville Sling Tote Diaper Bag. I am thisclose to having baby #2 and though I survived the first without an actual true diaper bag, I really really want one when this one comes along since we will also have my 3-year old's stuff in there too!

My uterus is now telling me I need to have another baby so that I can put a baby in a tie and buy cute stuff once more! So thanks for that. Now I need to explain to my poor uterus that I'm too old for babies in ties and stuff. Sigh.

I notice someone else loves it too!

Super short comment so I can continue to browse!

I'm pregnant with number 2 right now. The potential that it may be a girl this time has me scoping out the little dresses. (I won't find out the sex until June, so I have to be patient until then!). Also, I hope they have maternity clothes soon...that would be fantastic!!

My godson is coming down for a visit in a few weeks...perfect timing *fingers crossed* Thanks for the opportunity :)

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterSarah

Ok, so I have to admit that I was a little skeptical before I checked the site. Sometimes when people say that got a great deal on something, it's not a great deal for me - as in $100 baby jeans reduced down to $35 type thing...not my style so much. BUT - I am so happy I did visit it! Talk about great deals! I saw a sharp pair of Ralph Loren jeans for a 2t boy for less than I would pay at Target, AND, I have a 5T girl and loved a pink/white tiedye dress I found.....

Thanks so much for passing this along - gift card or not - I will be shopping here!

I love those patent leather Elefanten shoes

April 25, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterCristin

I love this idea! Thanks to hand-me-downs, I have had to buy very little for my son. When we do need something, I almost always buy consignment/second hand clothes. Better for the environment and my pocketbook! He will be turning 3 next month and would freak out over those 3T spider man PJ's. We also need a new pair of shoes. I saw a pair of crocs that would be perfect for digging in the dirt.

I love shopping second hand for my daughter, thanks so much for the heads-up on this awesome website!!!

I think my Annie would look awfully cute running around this summer in this dress: https://www.dashingbee.com/store/girls/girls-dresses/one-kid-dress-new-tag

I have 2 boys ages 3 and 1. (my littlest is I think a month older than your little guy). Through sheer luck, we have at least 3 or 4 couple friends who have boys older than ours who literally give us bags full of handmedown clothes about every three months. I haven't had to buy clothes in over a year and it's looking like I probably won't until the oldest is somewhere in 2nd grade. . I am in fact, embarrassed by the ridiculous amount of clothing we have for these boys who could not give two shits that they each own about 30 pairs of shorts and even more shirts. That said, I have a weakness for button down, guyabera type shirts for little boys. I see several on the Dashing Bee site that may have to be purchased... Or bathing suits!
fyi-mine has about outgrown all his 18mth size stuff--would you like some? We aren't having any more chitlins, so I am looking to clear out.. email me if you'd like some--I can send. :)

This site is fabulous! My girl is a slow grower, so clothes last forever. She is, however, obsessed with Pooh. She would love the Pooh piggy bank.
